Residential Inequality

Residential Inequality is a StoryMap that is intended to show how census data along with other historical data sets can be used to show how inherently discriminatory housing policy can and continues to contribute to systemic racism in the United States today.

Inequality.org has been tracking inequality-related news and views for nearly two decades. A project of the Institute for Policy Studies since 2011, their site aims to provide information and insights for readers ranging from educators and journalists to activists and policymakers.

Washington Post - Americans Killed by Police

Washington Post data on police killings in the US: "After Michael Brown, an unarmed black man, was killed in 2014 by police in Ferguson, Mo., a Post investigation found that the FBI undercounted fatal police shootings by more than half. This is because reporting by police departments is voluntary and many departments fail to do so. In 2015, The Washington Post began to log every fatal shooting by an on-duty police officer in the United States. In that time there have been more than 5,000 such shootings recorded by The Post."

Mapping Police Violence

Mapping Police Violence is quite possibly the most comprehensive accounting of people killed by police since 2013. Law enforcement agencies and the government fail to provide accurate numbers on the number of lives taken at the hands of police. 

The Guardian: The Counted

The Counted is a project by the Guardian working to count the number of people killed by police and other law enforcement agencies in the United States throughout 2015 and 2016, to monitor their demographics and to tell the stories of how they died.
